Players control protagonist Hamtaro as they seek out the various members of his clubhouse and attempts to fill in the Hamchat dictionary. Players can use dialogue options to have Hamtaro interact with characters and environments. The successor of the 2000 Game Boy Color game Tottoko Hamtaro: Tomodachi Daisakusen Dechu, it was followed by Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance which featured similar gameplay mechanics. It was the seventh best-selling game for the Game Boy Color in Japan. The game received generally positive reception, with reviewers such as IGN and Eurogamer noting its success as both a game for children and a game that could appeal to older audiences. Players control the hamster Hamtaro, who is tasked with gathering his friends and returning them to the clubhouse as well as collecting words missing from the Hamchat dictionary. It was the final video game published on the Game Boy Color by Nintendo.

It launched in Japan in 2001, and later came to North America and Europe in 20 respectively. It is based on the Hamtaro anime and features much of the same characters.

Jingle has a tendency to forget hamsters' names, especially with Hamtaro calling him things like "Ham-n'-cheese," "Ham-n'-eggs," "Hambozo," and "Hamtaco".

For this reason, Jingle only appeared in a handful of episodes at least when compared to the other 14 "main" Ham-Hams.

However, the main anime series gave Jingle a unique portrayal he doesn't generally go on the Ham-Hams' adventures, instead choosing to wander on his own. In some of his earliest appearances - namely the Gozaimachu! manga series, Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite!, and the 1999 pilot episode - Jingle was a regular member of the Ham-Ham gang. In many cases, he gets the Ham-Hams' adventures completely derailed though in the end, Jingle's antics usually end up being helpful, to some extent. When Hamtaro and the other Ham-Hams meet up with him, he will often give them odd, confusing advice. He later befriends a pig named Herbert, who he rides on top of during his journeys. He always carries his guitar with him, occasionally playing a riff as he roams around. He is rather quiet and peaceful, and speaks with a soft whisper. Although he is officially part of the Ham-Ham Gang, he isn't present on most of their adventures he ventures on his own to travel the world, joined by his pig Herbert and his trusty guitar.
